Everyone has a holiday that means something special to them, perhaps much more than it does to a regular person. Each year, my wife celebrates the day I married her (she's so sweet). To my mother, the birthday of her first grand-child is a special date. My bro annually celebrates the burning of Gabriel Jones. And The UnMighty has a thing for Leap Day.
Me? I'm better than all that. Yearly (even quad-yearly) holidays and the like are for the average man. I'm interested in the special days that are so filled with awesome they can only happen once in a lifetime. You know, like Rex Manning Day, only non-fictional. Tomorrow is one such day. Smash Day!
Throughout time and history, multi-player gaming has awed humankind. And like the chick in the new Terminator tv series (which isn't very good, by the way), multi-player gaming has evolved. Let me provide a brief history:
First, there was... Scorched Earth, the game that got us all through computer lab.
Then, there was... Worms, the computer lab game good enough for home play.
Next came... GoldenEye 007, the original ultimate hang-out game. Golden Gun sucka!
Finally... Super Smash Brothers!
The game came out for the Nintendo 64 on April 26, 1999. The Idea: Let's create a 4-player game where all the classic Nintendo characters can beat the crap out of each other! It was, quite simply, the best game of all time. It sucked up all of my free time and blew my mind. The creator should have a statue in Washington D.C.
Not to pass on the opportunity to make more money, the sequel came out for the Nintendo Gamecube December 3, 2001. Super Smash Brothers Melee has sold over 6 million copies since that day, and though it didn't fully live up to the original, SSBM is clearly the greatest Gamecube game ever to be manufactured. New characters were added, such as Princess Peach, Zelda (not to be confused with Link), Bowser, and Ganon, and the legend continued...
And now, we as a race of human beings, bonded in brotherhood all across the planet Earth, face brightly forward to Sunday March 9, 2008 as the day that the trilogy is completed with its Wii entry, extending us all past our most highly developed senses and into a transcendent future that is sure to be filled with Brother Smashing peace, love, and hope...
Ladies and Gentlemen, I give you:

I like that Sega doesn't have their own consoles anymore, so now they can put Sonic in Nintendo games. Sonic and Mario have been waiting for this opportunity to brawl for a long time.
